7 Benefits of an Indian Head Massage?
What is an Indian Head Massage and what are the benefits? Indian Head Massage is one of my favourite treatments to do as a therapist. It really is a relaxing treatment, but the benefits can help with a variety of physical and emotional problems.
It is always my choice of treatment along with a back neck and shoulder massage whenever I book in for a pamper myself! It’s a wonderful experience, I find it deeply calming and relaxing, and it always leaves me feeling energised and revitalised.
I offer 2 different options for you to choose from, the first is; Traditional Indian Head Massage which is carried out in a seated position, over clothes and concentrates on your arms, upper back, neck, shoulders scalp and face. The second option is a modern version which is carried out whilst lying down, massage oil is applied to the skin and scalp. The massage will begin on your arms, then move to your upper back, shoulders and neck, you will then turn over and the treatment will continue, on your scalp and face.
Here are 7 benefits of an Indian Head Massage; 1. Helps prevent migraines and headaches Often tension in the neck and head can lead to migraines and headaches. l begin the Indian Head Massage by applying pressure to points in the upper back, arms and shoulders that will release muscles and knots and then move to the neck and head to reduce blockages and encourage better circulation in the head and neck.
2. Helps relieve sinus problems and detoxifies the body by stimulating lymphatic drainage Indian Head Massage stimulates and improves lymphatic drainage and blood flow to the neck thus helping to remove waste products from the body. It also includes specific pressure points and draining techniques on the face that can help drain sinuses and reduce sinus pain.
3. Promotes hair growth This is a lovely side effect of the Indian Head Massage. The massage increases nourishment and oxygen to the scalp and hair follicle which in turns stimulates hair growth. A win, win!
4. Relieves sleeplessness, restlessness, insomnia and fatigue These are often side-effects of stress and Indian Head Massage will immediately relieve stress and promote relaxation by attacking the physical symptoms, allowing for a deeper sense of wellbeing and relaxation and encouraging better rest.
5. Relieves symptoms of anxiety Massaging the head encourages the supply of oxygen to the brain which is one of the best ways of reducing anxiety and lifting your mood. Once you are more relaxed the brain can produce more endorphins including serotonin and this hormone can help relieve anxiety.
6. Renews energy levels An Indian Head Massage works with the Ayurvedic concept which goes beyond the limits of healing and places emphasis on balance. Working on the chakras through Indian Massage has a powerful effect in bringing the energy of the body back into balance. I love the energy colours I often see when having this treatment, most frequently I see bright green and vibrant violet which in Ayurvedic terms this represents my heart chakra and crown chakra.
7. Relieves Stress and Tension Indian Head Massage slows us down, sensual awareness takes over, thoughts quieten and awareness is brought to the forefront. Think of it like someone pressing your ‘reset’ button. I really do feel like I have been ‘plugged back in’ after an Indian head massage, I know that sounds strange but my stress levels are reduced and I feel re-energised.
